    Information

Established in 2012 by Belgian collector Hubert Bonnet, Fondation CAB in Brussels is a non- profit space dedicated to the promotion of Belgian and international minimalist and conceptual art through a dynamic programme of exhibitions and events. Housed in a striking 1930s Art Deco-style warehouse, built for the coal mining industry, Fondation CAB’s exhibition space offers visitors a unique environment to experience art.

Fondation CAB’s newly restored 800m2 building by Olivier Dwek delivers a streamlined open space located near the idyllic Etangs d’Ixelles and in proximity to a cluster of vibrant contemporary art venues. Contrasting with the building’s original architecture, its flexible and modular interior provides a space for experimentation. The building also houses a special studio dedicated to artists in residencies.

Reflecting Bonnet’s passion for minimal art and his personal art collection, Fondation CAB draws inspiration from the Constructivist period to the present day seeking to show work by artists who share a distinct practice and aesthetic. The programme is composed of two core exhibitions a year: one major curated exhibition of minimal art featuring internationally renowned artists, and one exhibition of minimal art-inspired works by young contemporary artists, including special commissions as well as in-situ installations. In addition Fondation CAB hosts a series of special projects, inviting targeted initiatives from galleries, museums, curators and artists worldwide conceived in accordance with its mission.

Fondation CAB has organised a number of pivotal and original exhibitions featuring established and internationally recognised artists. Most recently Fondation CAB staged an eye-catching 6x6m ‘demountable house’ by Jean Prouvé (1944) which is a key piece in Hubert Bonnet’s private collection.

Fondation CAB is a key player in Brussels’ flourishing art scene and an important fixture in the city’s contemporary art circuit.
