The CAN is one of Switzerland's leading art centers dedicated to contemporary artistic creation. In particular, it is known for its remarkably spacious and bright spaces, emblematic of the modern art centers that have emerged since the middle of the last century, particularly in derelict industrial areas. Above all, the CAN is renowned for its audacious programming and its horizontal, collective management - a rare feature in Switzerland for a cultural institution of this scale. Following an annual programming rhythm, exhibitions are specifically conceived and produced for the site; they are produced jointly by the CAN team and the artists, in the closest possible collaboration. These exhibitions offer significant experience to artists from Switzerland and elsewhere, whose practice, sometimes still in development, benefits from visibility at both national and international level. This methodology reflects a highly diversified curatorial vision of contemporary art, based on several fundamental criteria: the exploration of the most current trends in contemporary artistic creation, the continual questioning of the issues that define an art exhibition, the maintenance of a dynamic of experimentation and risk-taking in the conception of projects, and the provision of a curatorial, financial, technical and promotional environment adapted to the artists' working conditions.
