/ (pronounced slash) is a 503c(3) nonprofit visual art space founded in 2018 to advance and promote the expanding field of contemporary art in San Francisco through exhibitions, publications, and public programming.Founded and directed by Ana Saygi, / places emphasis on the works of internationally well-respected artists, who are perhaps lesser known in the Bay Area, looking to bring diverse aesthetic concepts together in order to foster discussion and new ideas.
In /‘s inaugural year of programming, Los Angeles-based artist and film-maker Drew Heitzler curated a series of six two-person exhibitions, each accompanied by a zine-style catalogue. In 2020, a series of local independent curators, including Juana Bérrio, Naz Cuguoğlu, Bob Linder, Astria Suparak, Sam Vernon, and Leila Weefur will be organizing six exhibitions at /.
/room/ is the workspace adjacent to the / main gallery, where local, emerging artists are invited to show often site-specific and experimental projects in conversation with the artists exhibiting in the main gallery.
With an eye toward furthering understanding, / programming is offered free of charge and designed to be accessible to the general public.
