The Neuer Kunstverein Wien is a young art institution which opened 2011 at Bauernmarkt 9, 1010 Vienna, in a building in which many artists found their accommodation. In 2012, the NKW moved to its new space in the high-rise building at Herrengasse 8-10, 1010 Vienna. This high-rise is a landmark in the centre of Vienna and architecture of historic importance. The Neuer Kunstverein Wien makes usage of various spaces in the building, including the basement and the panorama terrace. The Neuer Kunstverein Wien acts and reacts with its art projects on its urban and architectural surroundings.
NKW sees itself as an open platform for artistic interventions and discourses in practice and theory, and with its program it places special focus on the cross-over between the visual arts,, film, music, archtecture, literature, dance, performance and spatial intervention.
The aim of the Neuer Kunstverein Wien is, alongside the established institutions, to offer a laboratory and a “free zone” of exchange, of production and presentation of contemporary art.
